ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF RELIGION IN SOUTHERN AFRICA (ASRSA)
“EMERGING TRENDS AND TRAJECTORIES IN THE STUDY OF RELIGION”
Dates: 28-30 August 2013
Venue: University of Free State, Bloemfontein

We are glad to announce that the “Call for Papers” (CFP) for the 2013 ASRSA Congress is now open. This year we celebrate 35 years of existence. We invite you to join with us at the annual congress to be held at the University of Free State (Bloemfontein). It will be a unique opportunity to present and share your findings and experiences on the chosen theme “Emerging Trends and Trajectories in the Study of Religion”. Twelve interrelated focus areas have been identified. Through evidence embedded in narrative and reflection, congress participants are encouraged to explore emerging trends and trajectories across twelve thematic focus areas:

1. Multi-Inter-and Trans (MIT) Disciplinary Approaches
2. Research Methodologies
3. Religion and Education
4. Religion, Technology and Civil Society
5. Religion in Literature
6. Religion and Health
7. Religion, Migration and Urbanization
8. Religion and the Glocal (Globalization and Localization)
9. Religion, De-Colonization and Post-colonialism
10. Religion and the Secular
11. New Religious Movements and “Unconventional” Religions (in Africa)
12. Religion and Materialism

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
As part of our objective to explore new terrains in innovation, this year we welcome three presentation modalities:
(a) Oral
(b) Poster
(c) Virtual (presentations will be made available online using cloud technology and on CD)

The deadline for abstract submission is 03 July 2013.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically to chettd@unisa.ac.za

Abstracts should be 400-500 words (clear articulation of the research question/ problem statement; hypothesis; methodology; theory; and theoretical framework), indicate the congress track and the presentation mode. In addition provide: full name, university/ institution affiliation, email address, 8-10 keywords.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the congress are to:
(a) Present and disseminate research on the chosen theme.
(b) Create a forum to discuss and exchange ideas on the twelve identified congress tracks.
(c) Promote national/ international partnership and cooperation.

PUBLICATION/ DISSEMINATION OF PRESENTATIONS
All presentations will be disseminated on CD and included in the newly formed ASRSA Digital Library Repository.

CONFERENCE FEES

Full Registration: R250-00
Student Registration: R200-00
Virtual Presentation: R250-00
NB: The above fees covers the costs for teas/coffees and lunch over the three days.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

Abstract Submission Deadline: 03 July 2013
Final Paper Submission: 15 August 2013
Registration: Registration commences from 01 June 2013.
