The Central European African Studies Network (CEASN) is proud to announce the 1st Central European African Studies Conference (CEASC) which is going to take place at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
Ethnicity, Culture and Society seem to be very much debated issues in contemporary African Studies and have a great impact on politics, international relations, socio-economic issues and internal dynamics of African countries. Since the pre-colonial through colonial times up to nowadays we have seen enormous changes in African societies that have far-reaching impact on all aspects of daily lives of individuals and societies in Africa. Modern and contemporary history of Africa has witnessed dynamic processes of continuous changes that stand in sharp contrast to public image of Africa as static continent lacking any kind of development.
The 1st CEASC welcomes papers from a wide range of disciplines including anthropology, history, political science and international relations, linguistic anthropology, philosophy, ethnography, development studies and sociology.
The Organizers encourage Ph.D. students, scholars and academics from all institutions of higher education and research to send abstracts to: africa.pilsen@gmail.com until February 20th, 2014. On March 1st, 2014, accepted abstracts will be published on conference websites. In December 2014, a collective monograph composed of selected papers will be published. Conference fee is 20 EUR (500 CZK) for non-members of CEASN, 10 EUR (250 CZK) for members of CEASN, and 5 EUR (125 CZK) for Ph.D. students and it has to be paid at registration the first day of the conference.

The Think Tank for the Research of Islam and Muslims in Africa together with the Ezri Center for Iran & Persian Gulf Studies and the University of Haifa will be hosting at the University of Haifa on November 28, 2013, a conference titled “An International Conference on Islam in Africa”. The conference will deal with four main topics: Israel and Africa, the Horn of Africa and the Nile Basin, Islam and Society in Africa, and Islamic Radicalism in Africa – Sunni and Shi’ite Dimensions.

Update on BASR/EASR/IAHR 2013 Liverpool Conference
IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING BASR/ EASR/IAHR 2013 LIVERPOOL CONFERENCE 3-6 SEPTEMBER
The 2013 BASR / EASR / IAHR Conference to be held in Liverpool Hope University is announcing a re-launch for the conference. Prof. Ron Geaves, the conference organiser to date, has had to step aside due to health issues, so there is now a new conference team structure in place, and we are using this as an opportunity to re-launch the conference and provide key information updates:
1) Secure online registration is NOW LIVE – please go to www.hope.ac.uk/religionmigrationmutation for details of full residential conference packages, day rates (for those not requiring on-campus accommodation) and useful travel information.
2) The deadline for submission of panels and papers has been EXTENDED TO JUNE 15TH. We are delighted with the quality of panels and papers submitted so far, and welcome further submissions.
3) Please use the dedicated email address for any queries – easrconference@hope.ac.uk
4) A detailed timetable will be released after the deadline for panel/paper submissions, but for those making travel plans, the conference will start with registration 10am-4pm on Tues 3rd and end after lunch on Friday 6th.
5) In addition to panels, papers and meetings, the full conference package will include a Gala Dinner with accompanying live band playing 1960s Beatles/’Merseybeat’ music for which the city is so famous, and there will be a cultural tour of Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site Docks and Museums quarter.
Liverpool – the European Capital of Culture in 2008 – is a very exciting city with UNESCO World Heritage Status for its iconic Docks area. With more Georgian buildings than any other city in Britain, other than Bath, Liverpool boasts a world-renowned Philharmonic Orchestra, the Walker Art Gallery, the new multi-million pound waterside Museum of Liverpool, one of only two Tate Art Galleries outside of London, two of the most famous football teams in Europe, and the largest Cathedral in Britain. Home to the Beatles, and many other successful ‘Merseybeat’ bands of the 1960s, the city retains a proud tradition of music and the performing arts and is home to Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts.

ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF RELIGION IN SOUTHERN AFRICA (ASRSA)
“EMERGING TRENDS AND TRAJECTORIES IN THE STUDY OF RELIGION”

We are glad to announce that the “Call for Papers” (CFP) for the 2013 ASRSA Congress is now open. This year we celebrate 35 years of existence. We invite you to join with us at the annual congress to be held at the University of Free State (Bloemfontein). It will be a unique opportunity to present and share your findings and experiences on the chosen theme “Emerging Trends and Trajectories in the Study of Religion”. Twelve interrelated focus areas have been identified. Through evidence embedded in narrative and reflection, congress participants are encouraged to explore emerging trends and trajectories across twelve thematic focus areas:

As part of our objective to explore new terrains in innovation, this year we welcome three presentation modalities:
(a) Oral
(b) Poster
(c) Virtual (presentations will be made available online using cloud technology and on CD)
The deadline for abstract submission is 03 July 2013.

Abstracts should be 400-500 words (clear articulation of the research question/ problem statement; hypothesis; methodology; theory; and theoretical framework), indicate the congress track and the presentation mode. In addition provide: full name, university/ institution affiliation, email address, 8-10 keywords.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the congress are to:
(a) Present and disseminate research on the chosen theme.
(b) Create a forum to discuss and exchange ideas on the twelve identified congress tracks.
(c) Promote national/ international partnership and cooperation.
PUBLICATION/ DISSEMINATION OF PRESENTATIONS
All presentations will be disseminated on CD and included in the newly formed ASRSA Digital Library Repository.

NB: The above fees covers the costs for teas/coffees and lunch over the three days.
